TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF & YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO WATER.

My relationship with the water and fitness began as a kid, bodyboarding and surfing with my friends at Robert Moses beach in L.I and up in the Hamptons when we wanted to catch bigger waves. As a kid growing up on Long Island, I spent a lot of time at the beach. I admired the surfers and paddle boarders, and always wanted to be a lifeguard because I thought it was the coolest job ever.

Also, being West Indian and having family in Haiti that lived by the beach, I was always around the water. Initially, it was the beach and surf culture that inspired me, then as I got older I realized the health benefits of swimming and being active in the water, and that is what continues to motivate me to explore and learn more about water sports and fitness.

When I joined the Navy, my first duty station was at Camp Pendleton in CA, which was right by Oceanside and Trestles, the Meccas for bodyboarding, surfing and salt water culture.

I was fortunate to have those beaches so close to me, because having access to the water culture there allowed me to elevate my game in terms of ocean sports. During that time I was also learning about combat swimming in the Navy, and learning about small boats and maritime law, which opened me up to a whole new and different set of rules in relation to the ocean and the water.

I am also a cycling enthusiast, personal trainer, group exercise instructor and martial artist.

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH AQUASTUDIO?

When I began working in the fitness industry, there wasn't much available in terms of working out in water — other than people who swam for cross training or triathletes who did laps at local pools.

It wasn't until I was looking for a hydrotherapy facility for a client that I discovered Aqua, which is the union of two if my favorite activities — swimming & cycling — right here in my own backyard: NYC.
