MEET OUR TEAM: Katrina Phillip



Tell us a little about yourself

I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, and have been living in New York for 15 years. I’ve been dancing since I was three years old. In college (Western Michigan University) — in order to seek refuge from dance class — I would move the way I wanted at the REC center.

There, I would use the open aerobics studio to choreograph and also to take aerobics classes. After a while, the instructors got to know me well, and they’d have me teach for them when they were unable to (since I knew all their routines). The REC center eventually had me certified to train and teach, since so many of the patrons requested me. I’ve been training and teaching ever since. You can find me training and teaching mostly on the Upper East and West sides of Manhattan, namely Columbia & Barnard University (where I am an adjunct professor). I also specialize in one-on-one training for children, seniors, and those with disabilities (individuals who need fitness the most). 

How did you get involved with AQUASTUDIO?

I heard of AQUA through clients and class-goers of mine. They raved about the Studio. I didn’t want to take class alone, so I brought my boyfriend on a surprise date. He loves to spin and swim, and I thought it would be fun for us. Immediately after taking that first class, I had to get information on how I could become a part of the team. 

What is your favorite class to teach, and why?

I like them all. Like food and music, it depends on my mood and how my body is feeling. The PLYO classes I really enjoy, because you are moving in the water on and off the bike. It truly gives one a great variety. 

What does holistic wellness mean to you?

Holistic Wellness means BALANCE to me. It means having balance and maintaining balance within one’s body, mind and spirit. 

What does your perfect AQUA class playlist include?

The perfect playlist depends heavily on the audience (a.k.a., who is taking class) and my current mood (how I’m feeling / how my students are feeling). There is usually a theme (i.e. Ultimate 80s, Best Songs from Movies You Love, Fabulous Female Artists). It also provides variety with a variety of eras, beats, voices, flavors. 

What inspires you every day?

Humans and their stories inspire me day after day. 

What can AQUASTUDIO members expect from taking a class with you?

Expect a great workout, and a leader who is full of fun-loving energy. 

What is your class schedule?

Saturday Afternoons : 1PM INTVL & 2PM PLYO.
